The brain puts an emotional tag onto things that happen to us, this can be positive or negative. For example, if you think of a situation when you were extremely happy and really allow yourself to re-experience that moment in your imagination it is likely that you will smile. These thoughts will induce a positive feeling in you.

Similarly, if you think back to an unhappy or frightening experience this may also change your state of being, this time to a more negative state. These are the emotions that it may be more beneficial to eradicate or reduce.

Resolving psychological difficulties and indecision about direction in life depends on each person’s ‘story’ of their life, what has happened to them and their perception or view of these events.
